HELP NEEDED! - I am building a new version of Gedcoms.com that will allow peopel to search and view the Gedcom files before they download them. The new site can be seen at http://www.Gedcoms.net please visit the site and let me know if you find any bugs or can think of any ways to make the site easier to use. GEDCOM Stands for GEnealogical Data COMmunication

It is a Common file format that allows users to exchanges genealogical files between different Programs.

For example:

If you use the program Family Tree Maker and your friend uses the program called Generations Family Tree. You can export your information to a Gedcom File and your friend will be able to import the file into their program.

What can I do at Gedcoms.com?

At Gedcoms.com you can upload a Gedcom file to share with the world, download gedcom files that other have chosen to share, discuss genealogy searches and many other nifty things that you can find by click the menu links on the left. Some of the things require that you register for a free account, this requirement is to allow you to have an informative user profile and hopefully keep the spam to a minimum.

There are no charges to upload or download a Gedcom file for personal use. We will not sell your files to any third party company. You cannot download the gedcom files and post them on another website without the permission of the files original auther. At some point in the future Gedcoms.com may offer a selection of the gedcoms file on a cd rom that can be purchased to benefit people with slow internet connections. By uploading your files to Gedcoms you are agreeing to this.
